Где в достаточно приличном/официальном месте написан тот факт, что если человек получает новый паспорт, а в старом есть ещё действующая американская виза, то её совершенно необязательно переставлять в новый, а можно просто показывать на границе в старом? А то некоторые родственники старшего поколения сомневаются и не верят мне на слово :-)

Updated 05-28-99: Passport Renewal and Transfer of Visa from Old Passport to New Passport

Until yesterday, the consular officer could transfer a nonimmigrant visa "without fee" to a new passport if the visa remained valid and the consular officer determined that the applicant remained eligible. However, from today, the consular officer will consider such application as a reapplication and applicant must pay application fee (this can be expensive for certain nationals who have to pay reciprocity fee on top of visa application fee; for instance, $100+$45 for Indians), according to the newly published DOS regulation and it is no longer considered a "transfer of visas." Important note: Applicants who do not wish to apply for such new visas(reapplication), may travel with their old but still valid visas in their old passports along with a valid new passport.

Кстати, моя тёща не поленилась и сходила в посольство (в Москве), где её заверили, что визу переносить не надо, и даже выдали какую-то официальную бумагу, это подтверждающую. Так что всё consistent :)
